Welcome to NW Alaska and 7 National Parks, Preserves, National Monuments and Wildlife Refuges!
There are honestly endless options for you to choose from when planning a wilderness float trip ranging from 3-6 day floats on the Squirrel River (BLM) up to 21 day floats from Gates of the Arctic National Park and into Noatak National Park and Preserve. Let us help you build a DIY trip based upon what you’re looking forward in a wilderness trip and the amount to time you have so you can enjoy Alaska’s premier wilderness!
Our most popular trips are float trips are on the Noatak and the Kobuk Rivers.
These rivers are all class I waters with no rapids and usually is done in 5-7 days. Lots of side rivers with excellent fishing for Sheefish, Salmon, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Pike, Grayling and Whitefish.
Let’s break that down for you:
The Kobuk
Kobuk Valley National Park is one of the least visited national park in the United States and home to the Kobuk River. Truly a wonderful example of “Bush” Alaska because there are 5 villages located on the Kobuk River and Kobuk Valley National Park is home to 26 square miles of sand dunes which are the largest sand dune formation north of the Arctic Circle in the world! Located between the village of Ambler and Kiana this 100-mile float trip is truly spectacular and should be on your Bucket List!
The Noatak
The Noatak River is an epic adventure that starts in Gates of the Arctic National Park and flows 330 miles to the Chukchi Sea. This river is long and we usually break down the trips into the upper river and the lower river because to do the entire river is about 3 weeks of serious commitment!
The upper river is best accessed through Bettles Alaska, and we have flight services to get you in and we will have you picked up via Kotzebue Alaska. We can do the entire trip though Kotzebue but because of the distance our flight service can only get you up to the “Lucky 6” slough which will cut of about 3 days in the upper section.
The lower section will allow you to float the famous Grand Canyon of the Noatak and is something very special!
Lots of choices and we can provide any or all the gear you will need to do this type of trip including flights!
Kobuk Dunes. 26 square miles of sand dunes and all above the Arctic Circle. Located 2-3 days below the Village of Ambler Alaska.
